Individual counseling for adults in person in South Austin and online throughout Texas.
Sometimes people reach out because they know exactly what's wrong. Other times they just know something doesn't feel right anymore.
What we can work on together.
Maybe you're overwhelmed. Maybe you're stuck in the same relationship patterns. Maybe you've been carrying around stress for so long that it feels normal.
Whatever brought you here, counseling is a chance to slow down, understand what's happening, and try to figure out what might help.
Below are some of the concerns I work with most often. If your experience doesn't fit neatly into one of these, you're still welcome to reach out.
Anxiety
Sometimes anxiety feels obvious.
Other times it looks like constantly thinking through every possible outcome, replaying conversations in your head, or feeling like you can never really relax.
You might find yourself preparing for the worst even when nothing is wrong. Or maybe you're exhausted from trying to keep everything under control.
Together, we'll work to understand what's driving your anxiety and try to find practical ways to respond to it rather than letting it make every decision for you.
Depression
Depression doesn't always look the same.
Maybe there are a lot of tears or trouble getting out of bed. Sometimes it looks like getting through the day while feeling disconnected from everything around you.
Maybe things you used to enjoy don't seem worth the effort anymore. Maybe you're harder on yourself than anyone else could ever be.
We'll take time to understand your experience without assumptions, and work toward the goals you'd like to achieve.
Life Transitions
Life doesn't always change because we planned for it.
A new relationship. A breakup. Becoming a parent. Changing careers. Losing someone. Moving. Getting older. Even positive changes can leave you feeling uncertain.
Counseling gives you a place to make sense of what's changing and how you want to move forward instead of simply trying to keep up.
Intrusive Thoughts
Intrusive thoughts can show up out of nowhere.
The harder you try not to think about them, the more they seem to stick around.
Having intrusive thoughts doesn't automatically mean those thoughts reflect who you are or what you want.
We'll talk openly about what's happening without judgment and work toward understanding your experience instead of fearing it.
Self-Criticism
Some people have an inner voice that's much harsher than anything another person would ever say to them.
Maybe you replay mistakes long after everyone else has forgotten them.
Maybe nothing ever feels good enough.
We'll explore where that voice came from and whether it's actually helping you become the person you want to be.
Anger
Anger is often easier to notice than the feelings underneath it.
Stress, disappointment, shame, grief, fear: they can all come out looking like frustration or irritation.
Rather than trying to get rid of anger, we'll work to understand what it's trying to communicate and develop healthier ways to respond when it shows up.
Men's Issues
The men in our lives sometimes taught us strategies that aren't working, or we had to figure things out on our own.
It can be tough because people might expect a man to have it all figured out.
But that's not easy if we are missing the tools we need to fix complicated problems.
Counseling can be a place to add more tools to your toolbox, and there's always room to replace old tools for better ones.
Attachment & Relationships
The way we learned to connect with people growing up often continues to shape our relationships as adults.
If trusting people feels difficult, you worry about being left, or opening up feels uncomfortable, there may be good reasons for that.
Your attachment style isn't something that's “wrong” with you. It's simply one way of understanding how your past experiences may still be influencing your relationships today.
to counseling
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all counseling.
It would be arrogant of me to make assumptions or offer quick fixes after the first session. I recommend that we spend the first three sessions so that I can understand your situation. Then we can work together to develop new strategies for your life.
We'll talk about what's happening now, explore the experiences that shaped you, and try practical changes between sessions when it makes sense.
Some things will work.
Some won't.
That's part of the process.
Our job is to keep paying attention and find what fits you, not just what works for someone else.
